About Oxford Clay

Oxford Clay is a studio pottery based in Oxford which specialises in handmade ceramics. They have designed their ceramics to cause minimal impact to humans, animals and the environment.

Kathrine, who runs Oxford Clay enlisted the help of an ethical consultant to investigate traditional pottery ingredients, she then spent months researching and testing clay and glaze recipes, until she developed a special mix of clay using clays selected from the UK - Devon, Dorset and Cornwall and mixed them with rain water. She then created a glaze made from recycled wood ash which is free from the toxic metal oxides usually added to glaze to give colour. The glaze is coloured only by the natural trace minerals and metals in the ash itself. Each ash is different depending on the type of tree and the soil the tree grew in.

The ceramics are fired using 100% renewable electricity and due to the ethical clay mix Oxford Clay has been awarded vegan certification by The Vegan Society.
